West Bengal Day Celebration 20th June, 2026
Smt. Mitra Ghosh, First Lady of Haryana
Distinguished guests, dignitaries and my dear brothers and sisters from West Bengal
I extend a very warm welcome to each one of you on this joyous occasion of West Bengal Day.
Bengal — the very name evokes a sense of pride and reverence. From the shores of the Ganges to the depths of the intellect, Bengal has always stood as the intellectual heartbeat of India. It is the land that gave us Rabindranath Tagore, whose words kindled the soul of a nation; Swami Vivekananda, whose thunderous voice awakened a civilization; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who dared to challenge an empire; and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, under whose grace Bengal became the very cradle of spiritual awakening. Bengal did not merely participate in India’s renaissance — Bengal led it.
The people of West Bengal carry this legacy in their hearts. Wherever they go — and they go everywhere — they bring with them a rare combination of intellectual curiosity, artistic sensitivity, and an unbreakable will to strive. Here in the Tricity, the Bengali community has carved a distinguished identity for itself — in medicine, academics, arts, commerce, and public service. And just as importantly, you have kept alive the warmth of your culture, your music, your literature and your festivals, enriching the social fabric of this region.
Your social cohesion is truly exemplary. The Bengali community stands as one — in celebration, in sorrow, and in purpose. That unity is your greatest strength.
Dear Friends,
As we celebrate the glorious heritage of West Bengal, we must also look towards the future. India today is witnessing unprecedented economic transformation. Haryana, through progressive policies, entrepreneurship, industrial development and agricultural excellence, has emerged as one of the country’s leading growth engines. The spirit of innovation, enterprise and determination has enabled Haryana to make remarkable strides in multiple sectors.
I firmly believe that West Bengal, endowed with a rich intellectual legacy, a talented and dynamic youth population, a strategic geographical location, and an unparalleled cultural heritage, has the potential to emerge as a leading hub of industry, entrepreneurship, innovation and economic excellence in the years ahead. By building upon its traditional strengths and embracing new opportunities for growth, investment and enterprise, West Bengal can unlock its immense potential and contribute even more significantly to India’s aspiration of becoming a developed and globally competitive nation.
On this auspicious occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to national unity, cooperative federalism and mutual learning among States. When States learn from one another’s successes, the entire nation progresses.
With these words, I once again extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of West Bengal and wish them continued peace, prosperity and progress.
Jai Hind. Jai Bangla. Jai Bharat.
