Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me immense pleasure to be present today at the inauguration of the newly renovated stage and auditorium of the Bantra Public Library, an institution that proudly carries the legacy of 142 years.
This library is not merely a building of brick and mortar. It is a living testimony to the intellectual and cultural journey of our society. It must be preserved, protected and promoted for our collective well-being.
From the ancient libraries of Nalanda and Alexandria to public libraries such as Bantara, libraries have played a decisive role in the evolution of human civilization. They have preserved collective wisdom, nurtured critical thinking and acted as silent witnesses to social transformation.
In every age, libraries have served as democratic spaces where knowledge is accessible to all, irrespective of class or creed. Institutions like Bantra Public Library remind us that progress is sustainable only when it is rooted in learning and reflection.
Dear Friends,
We are living in an era of unprecedented digital expansion. Digital libraries, online databases and artificial intelligence have undoubtedly enhanced access to information.
However, we must remember that information alone does not create wisdom. The physical act of reading a book – turning its pages, engaging deeply with text, and reflecting without distraction – cultivates patience, concentration and intellectual discipline. These qualities are fundamental to maintaining a high-quality academic value system.
Moreover, physical books connect us to authenticity, depth and continuity. They anchor us to rigorous scholarship and ethical learning traditions, especially for young minds who are growing up in an age of speed and instant gratification. Digital tools should complement, not replace, the timeless culture of serious reading.
I commend all those associated with the renovation of this historic library. May Bantra Public Library continue to inspire generations of readers, scholars and citizens, and remain a beacon of knowledge, culture and enlightened thought for years to come.
Thank You! Jai Hind
