Chandigarh, June 30 – Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh today called upon the Kurukshetra University administration to strengthen its engagement with the University’s vast alumni network and encourage alumni to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections so that financial constraints do not become a barrier to higher education.

The Governor was addressing a function after laying the foundation stone of the Cafeteria at Rose Garden, Kurukshetra University, through virtual mode from Lok Bhavan. Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh was also present on the occasion.

Emphasising the transformative power of education, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh urged the University to identify deserving students from underprivileged families, particularly those where no member has been able to pursue higher education for generations. He said willing alumni should be encouraged to sponsor the education of such students, enabling them to realise their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.

Highlighting the immense strength of Kurukshetra University’s alumni community spread across India and across the world, the Governor said their contributions through mentorship, scholarships, internships, research collaborations, philanthropy and infrastructure development can play a transformative role in shaping the future of the University.

Prof. Ghosh also appreciated the generous contribution of Shri Hemant Gupta and Smt. Nalini Gupta, distinguished alumni of Kurukshetra University, who have donated US $500,000 towards the construction of the new cafeteria. He described their contribution as a shining example of alumni commitment and generosity that would inspire others to give back to their alma mater.

The Governor said that Kurukshetra University has emerged as a leading centre of women-centric higher education, with girl students constituting the majority on the campus. In this context, he suggested that the upcoming cafeteria be managed by an all-women team. Such an initiative, he said, would promote women’s leadership and entrepreneurship while serving as a practical model of women empowerment.

Earlier, the Governor virtually unveiled the foundation stone plaque of the cafeteria, released the project brochure and, along with Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh, planted a sapling to mark the occasion.

Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University Prof. Somnath Sachdeva also addressed the gathering.

Among those present were Dr. Virender Pal, Registrar, Kurukshetra University; Dr. Anil Mittal, Director, KU Alumni Association; Dr. Vivek Chawla, Director, Youth and Cultural Affairs; and other faculty members and officials.
