Distinguished dignitaries on the dais, esteemed faculty
members, proud parents and dear students !
I am delighted to participate in the Annual Convocation of the prestigious Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women,
Chandigarh, a proud constituent of Panjab University, dedicated to empowering women through quality education in Arts, Science,
Commerce, Management and Information Technology. On this momentous occasion, I recall that this college was
founded under the auspices of the Arya Samaj, renowned for its legacyof women empowerment and social reform. Established nearly six
decades ago by the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, it
stands as a tribute to Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, former Chief Justice
of India – a distinguished legal luminary, patriot, educationist and social
reformer.
From its humble beginnings in 1968, with only a handful of
students and faculty members, the college has grown into a vibrant
academic community of thousands of students and hundreds of
dedicated faculty members across diverse disciplines. Today, it is
committed to providing holistic and meaningful education that nurtures
women into intellectually capable, morally strong, socially responsible
and spiritually inspired individuals.
I extend my heartfelt greetings to the visionaries and pioneers who
shaped this institution into what it is today. Over the past six decades, it
has produced distinguished alumnae making notable contributions in
India and abroad.
I am pleased to note that, alongside traditional disciplines in
languages, sciences and humanities, the college has introduced forwardlooking courses such as Microbiology, Food Technology, and
Psychology. It has also embraced modern trends with programs in
Computer Applications, Mass Communication, Retail Management and
Business Administration. In addition, its academic collaborations in
India and abroad enrich students’ learning and provide valuable global
exposure.
Dear Students,
Today marks a proud milestone in your lives as you receive your
degrees. Heartiest congratulations to you, your parents and teachers.
This is not an end but a new beginning—where your choices, effort and
determination will shape your future.
Your education opens doors to endless opportunities, whether in
higher studies or professional life. Remember, learning is lifelong and
true success lies not only in achievement but in continuous growth.
Dear students,
As India moves towards becoming a developed nation by 2047,
your role in driving innovation, skills and entrepreneurship is vital. The
true measure of progress is an inclusive society where every individual
lives with dignity and equal opportunity.
In your journey ahead, let values and integrity guide you through
challenges. Measure success by the positive difference you make, not
just by position or wealth.
Recognizing the power of Nari Shakti, India is steadily moving
from women empowerment to women-led development, with states like
Haryana witnessing a rise in women-led startups that reflect growing
leadership and entrepreneurial spirit among women. I am confident you
will bring pride to your families, institution, and nation by contributing
to a progressive and prosperous India rooted in women-led development.
Once again, congratulations to all graduates and best wishes for
the continued growth and success of this esteemed institution.
Thank you! Jai Hind!
